Who’s That Girl

by Sarah| Columbus Ohio Photographer on May 2, 2012

Who’s the girl behind the camera?  Well it is me, Sarah.  I figured I could do a little bit of a post about my current life and what has been going on and evolving inside our house over the past couple months. I am also going to include a picture of me for once.  I sometimes set my exposure and allow Aaron to take a few shots.  I don’t want my kids to only know mama from behind the lens.

I am really settling in to the being a stay and home mom thing.  I find that when I spend time on the computer or doing something technical I feel badly because I am sacrificing time I could be spending doing something around the house.  I have successfully gotten my fridge cleaned out as well as my pantry.  Both were in serious need of a little bit of organization and cleaning.  To think I would have had to take a vacation day to do those things in the past makes very grateful for my situation.

I have also been continuing to work out and cook everything from scratch.  Last month I won the weigh loss challenge at my gym losing over 12.5% of my body weight.  I am not going to lie, it was a hard run this time.  I am not eating dairy, egg, soy or corn, and I am making everything from scratch, but for some reason the weight didn’t just fall off with Marianna.  I logged a massive amount of time in the gym and even more time running.  I also put a substantial amount of time into cooking, shopping, and cleaning for our family meals.  I can’t type more without saying that Aaron is a huge help with all of this as well.  He doesn’t complain too often, and he does most of the cleaning.  He also works all day to be able to afford this life for Lucas, Marianna and I.  We are a lucky bunch!  I love Aaron to pieces for all this.

On the kid front, Marianna is rolling over with force both ways now, and Lucas is using larger and more descriptive words everyday.   He can now ride his bike all the way around the block twice without stopping.  I love it.  His bike riding has allowed us to postpone buying a swing set for a while.  Instead I put Marianna in the stroller and go for a walk.  It is pure bliss.

Of course I am adding a picture so you can see the bliss on your screen.

Over the next couple months, life will be a bit busier.  I am about to start working for a new client which is exciting.  I am looking to pick up on the reading again.  And I am greatly looking forward to some pool time this summer.  It is great to go into swimsuit season without a dreadful feeling.

So here I am…

Oldies But Goodies: Just Me

by Sarah| Columbus Ohio Photographer on April 25, 2012

Not that I am trying to get you to ignore the post below or anything but the gist of what I can glean from this post a little over a year ago is that 1.  Spring makes me want to start blogs 2.  I stuck with it longer than I thought and I am still sort of going 3.  Marianna is still on track because the twitter was all set up before she was out of the womb.

March 2nd, 2011

Hey everyone.  So here is my gazillionth attempt at a blog.  As one friend put it – I have had more blogs and websites than months of the year, and well, she is right.  I have had many quite a few because, well, I am pretty good at making them.  If you want a website that looks professional and is easy to maintain then I am your girl.  You would think that would get you super far – but it doesn’t because most people I know are pretty good at putting up websites as well.  In fact most babies I know have their websites and twitter set up before they are even born.  I guess that is what happens when you work in internet marketing and your husband is a programmer.  I prefer to use the term developer versus programmer but if you care enough to read this and you aren’t a technologist then you might wonder what he develops – so I will just use regular language and call him a programmer.  So my husband is a programmer and I am an internet marketer.

I don’t even know why I try to write for my friends that aren’t nerds though – most of the time I say I have a blog or a website they calmly roll there eyes…

In any case the circles that I run in are filled with super smart people, which is funny because I am okay.  I mean I am pretty much somewhere between Mensa and a box of rocks.  I survive, and I know how to find anything and everything on Google.  So I guess that means if I don’t know the answer I know where to go.  Which makes me resourceful.

Back to the blog thing – so I am not really sure why I am starting another blog.  I am not a good writer, I am not good at spelling, and every time I start one I quit.  But – now I at least put a 301 redirect into place so it doesn’t resolve into a cash parking site or some internet grave yard reminder of what could have been.  In fact, I also am going into this blog with much less ambition or purpose than any of my other projects.  This blog is going against the grain – I don’t have a topic, I am not going to be niche, I probably won’t be controversial, and I will only put myself out there in a little way.  So here it is…deep down I do hope it serves some purpose.

A Lasting Bond

by Sarah| Columbus Ohio Photographer on April 25, 2012

I really want my kids to be friends as they grow up and when they get older.  I know most parents hope for a lasting bond even if it doesn’t work out that way.

I had may fights growing up with my brother, but we also had a lot of fun.  Sure I did stuff that I am not proud of, and I threw him under the bus and ratted him out to my parents more times than I care to admit, but fortunately our bond and relationship is a lasting one.

So Marianna and Lucas – Stay tight!  And Yes I want to know if one of you is doing something you shouldn’t be doing.  And no parties when Mom and Dad go to Vegas and leave you home alone every year from the age of 13 on…

Oldies But Goodies: My Other Blog

by Sarah| Columbus Ohio Photographer on April 22, 2012

So, some of my close friends know that I have another blog that I have kept, not up to date, but updated for about a year.  I wanted to shut it down like all my other blogs but this time I had a real reason.  I was interviewing candidates for my job, and one of those candidates sent me a Facebook friend request.  I found that odd, figured the person probably “googled” me and I made my blog invisible to the search engines.  Pretty much if you had a link you could find it, otherwise it was off the grid.

In any case, I have some posts on there.  So I am going to re-post some of them when I don’t feel like writing anything, don’t have anything nice to say, or when I want to laugh about what I thought was true back when I posted.

And for the record.  I would totally “google” the person interviewing me.  Duh.  No judgement there.  My bad for not being discrete enough with my rants.

Just Another Rainy Saturday

by Sarah| Columbus Ohio Photographer on April 21, 2012

Today is just another lazy rainy Saturday.

The coffee sucked this morning and Marianna made the decision to get up at 2:30 and then again at 5:30.  At 5:30 I put her back down in her sleeper beside my bed since my arm was numb.  I was holding her from 2:30 until 5:30 am.  At that point she decided it was the right time to poop her pants.  Super.  So I was awake, she was awake, and Aaron was awake.

Life with the Stemen’s is pure bliss.

But right this second as I am typing this, I am enjoying a moment of peace.  Luke is very into imaginative play.  He is able to spend a good hour playing with his Toy Story action figures, cars, and robots.  Periodically, I try to interrupt and speak his language but he doesn’t love it.  He is enjoying the time in his head.  It is nice.  It is what a 2 and a half year old should be doing.

Aaron on the other hand is taking a shower, and I am in my pajamas looking skanky and dirty.  Honestly, I would love to say that I plan on staying this way all day, but we have plans.

I am taking Luke and Marianna swimming, and I am going to mobilize Luke in a few minutes to take him on a cloudy bike ride while I run.  I am sure that once I get out I will feel a bit more jazzed.

I would be lying if I said that I didn’t miss the time I used to spend on the weekends surfing to the end of the internet and back.   Not sure what exactly I used to be looking to find, or what answers were out there, but I remember long weekends at the condo while Aaron and I had our laptops on our legs.  In someways it was nice, in other ways it wasn’t complete.

I am going to share a few pictures of those days in the condo.  Funny to think 5 years later how our family has grown!  Cats – to – Kids – but that is a whole different post.

Marianna and Lucas – The Days

by Sarah| Columbus Ohio Photographer on April 20, 2012

So the days just fly by with these kids.  Luke is already using his big boy bike and he can pedal all the way around the block twice now.  Marianna is out of the newborn phase and looking like an older baby.  I can’t believe she will be on rice cereal next month.  I have taken so many pictures and I am not the best about posting, but I know I need to work on that.  Here are a few pictures I have taken of the kids.  The first one is Marianna on New Year’s Day.  She is wearing a tutu onesie from my friend Heather, who has amazing taste.  The second picture is Marianna in late November so when she was still a couple weeks old, sporting her leopard sleeper, and the last picture is of Luke.  Luke has taken to picking out his own pajamas every night, which basically means he never matches.  He is also totally over wearing footies.

Newborn Photography: My sweet little girl

by Sarah| Columbus Ohio Photographer on November 21, 2011

Well, I know it has been forever since I last updated my blog.  I am still busy working, but as most of you know it has been a long pregnancy.  Okay well I had Marianna Sophia at 37 weeks 6 days, so I guess it has been shorter than average, but working full time, having a toddler, and trying to build my own business has not left time for much.  But luckily I am off for maternity leave and I am taking some time to get back to my passions.  Here are some of the pictures of my darling baby girl!  In case you missed her entrance, here are her stats:

Marianna Sophia, Born November 12, 2011 at 4:30 pm 6 lbs 13 oz, 19 inches!  and BEAUTIFUL and PERFECT!

Engagement Photographer | Columbus Ohio – Sabina and Kyle

by Sarah| Columbus Ohio Photographer on February 21, 2011

This weekend I had the privilege of doing a late engagement shoot for Sabina and Kyle.  Sabina and Kyle were so fun to photograph.  It was a chilly 40 degrees downtown and they posed and had fun, and enjoyed the day.  To top it off their love story is adorable.  Sabina came to the United States as an exchange student in high school.  Kyle had a girlfriend, but after she went home the kept in touch over the years and are happily married today.  With all the travel and the wedding coordination, there wasn’t time to enjoy a true engagement session.  Now is their time.  I hope you enjoy.

Powell Ohio Portrait Photographer | Kathryn Nova | Portrait Photgrapher

by Sarah| Columbus Ohio Photographer on January 20, 2011

Outside – cold weather – Ohio…sounding gloomy huh?  I don’t feel so gloomy when I see these pictures of Kate.  I could go on and on about how much fun it is to take pictures of Kate.  She loves to pose, but most of all she is an artist.  Kate has a passion for beautiful clothing.  This photo shoot was done on her property in Delaware, and then we moved to a barn I pass on the way to the grocery store everyday.  I can’t wait to get out and take more pictures of Kate.

Columbus Ohio Engagement Pictures | Andy and Samantha | Photographer Columbus Ohio

by Sarah| Columbus Ohio Photographer on January 6, 2011

Andy and Samantha were home from Chicago for the holidays.  They are such a great couple.  I love Samantha’s spirit.  She is trendy and arty but her degree is in engineering and she teaches in the inner city in Chicago.  I love the way these pictures pop.  The colors this day were just perfect.  Too bad Sam and Andy were freezing!
